Every now and then a client will ask, “What are my chances in getting an interview for a job?”
It’s a good questions. Most resume writers will say, “Go for it,” because they want the money.
I’m far more circumspect. I will state what what I think the pros and cons are of the resume – the strengths and weaknesses – assessed against a specific job.
But I never state definitively that they should always apply for a position. If a candidate lacks many of the essential criteria, it’s a waste of their time and mine.
Besides, its up to the client whether they apply or not.
Yet sometimes there are good reasons why candidates should apply for positions, even though they’re not confident.
The very act of working with a resume writer to prepare a resume and cover letter, sharpens a candidate’s experience. They get better at preparing applications. They know their strengths and weaknesses. They write better applications.
If you’re in with half a chance, go for it.
