Racist and elitist recruiters abound

Migrants with degrees shafted

The story below is from the ABC but I’ve added my ten cents worth.

Dr Niazai is a 35-year-old Afghan-born Melburnian and an expert in forest ecology and climate change, with a master’s degree and a PhD from Kyoto University in Japan.

He has headed projects for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation, the US Department of Agriculture and AusAid.

He is fluent in four languages but he can’t get a job. Why? He was told a lot of crap when he applied to come to Australia (see Skilled Worker Visa program) and then he met the racist recruiters.

After seven months of searching for work, Dr Niazai started a three-month internship with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. That’s an internship when he has a PhD and is a major player in his field.

This is the norm, not an isolated case.

I had a recent resume enquiry from a young Chinese woman in Adelaide, with a Masters degree in International Relations from ANU and experience working as a data analysist for China’s largest finance company.

She’s selling bloody jewellery in Rundle Mall.

These people are being conned all along the line.
