Readers of this blog might notice that I have no love for Adelaide’s recruiters.
But one thing we do agree on is if international graduates txt or emails us with this, “you help me get job. How much?” the chances of getting a reply are low. Very low.
Why? Because we think you’re functionally illiterate. We don’t reply to txts because we don’t need to.
I’d recommend writing an email and attaching your resume in Word and include four sentences about yourself, your studies and the type of job you are looking for.
It doesn’t need to be word perfect but it’s more professional than, “You help me now. How much?”
Many young international and local graduates seem to want a LinkedIn site. There is nothing wrong with that if your expectations are low.
The problem is recruiters – who mainly use LinkedIn to search for experienced middle or upper level candidates with specialist skills – will ignore a graduate LinkedIn site.
There is a glut of graduates almost across the spectrum. Recruiters are, in the main, looking for candidates with more than ten years experience in their profession and who have solid achievements under their belt.
A carefully crafted resume with a cover letter targeting a specific job will do much better.
