When enquiries lose the plot

It could be the temper of the times or generational differences but we’ve had a few enquiries ‘lose the plot’ because we’ve knocked them back.

They think we’re awful people because we didn’t take them on as clients.

We’re recruiters, journalists and professional writers and everything we do is highly objective and critical. It’s not personal.

If we believe the enquiry isn’t a good fit for us or the prospective client or another writing outfit would do a better job, we tell the person.

We also have to calculate whether we to take on a new client as we have heavy advance bookings.

Writing a resume and targeted cover letter isn’t like calling in a plumber. It’s time consuming and exacting work.

We also do not write graduate resumes as tertiary institutions write them for free.

These are business decisions. So we don’t take every enquiry that sends us an email.

Unfortunately, some people have never heard the word ‘no’. Like this idiot.

People who ‘flame out’ because we knocked them back will find life difficult dealing with recruiters and employment managers.

They need to remember they are making an enquiry.
